London woman killed in car crash, ‘soulmate’ driver charged with impaired driving | CBC News

A 24-year-old man charged with impaired driving in a fatal crash on Wonderland Road, north of Springbank Drive earlier this month, claimed the life of one London woman, and severely injured two others.

Police have charged Bevin Henning, 24, of West Lorne with impaired operation causing death, along with impaired operation causing death, exceeding blood alcohol concentration. Henning is also facing two counts of impaired operation causing bodily harm, and impaired operation causing bodily harm, exceeding blood alcohol concentration.

The collision happened shortly after 7 p.m. on July 8, in the northbound lanes of Wonderland Road, approaching the Guy Lombardo bridge.

Courtney Ovens, 39, was a passenger and died in the crash. An obituary published online described Henning as Ovens’ “soulmate.” 

Ovens was remembered as an “animal lover at heart” who took in several rescue cats over the years. 

She was described as an “effervescent personality and a pure heart,” who cultivated many meaningful friendships during her life and will be sorely missed as an advocate to her friends, the obituary said.

An 18-year-old man and 19-year-old woman also suffered serious injuries, police said. 

The accused is scheduled to appear in court in October.

The investigation into the collision is still ongoing, and police are asking anyone with information to call them at 519-661-5670 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
